Big Hero 6: Movie Review

Heya, Sarah here!

Here’s a great excuse for posting after a long time- Disney’s 56th Animation Feature Big Hero 6! Here you go~

By Sarah Diamondswirls

Big Hero 6 is Disney’s latest animation film, and it’s based on a Marvel comic. It didn’t surprise me that the plot line of the film has little to do with the comic. So, you don’t need to go out and read the Marvel series if you haven’t yet.

Bottom Line

Hiro Hamada (Ryan Potter) is a genius fourteen-year-old, who has graduated from high school way before his friends. The boy is a tech-savy, and spends his days creating robots and fighting them illegally in alleys. In the mean time, Hiro’s elder brother Tadashi (Daniel Henney) is engaged in studying robotics in college. He feels that Hiro is wasting his potential and convinces him to give up the ‘boring’ stuff that he does, and join Tadashi’s friends- who create super cool robots, including ‘micro- bots’.

Unfortunately, Tadashi happens to get killed due to a fire. That’s when Hiro’s world turns upside down, and he goes into depression. He is disheartened and quits his university, thereby avoiding his friends. Tadashi’s friends try to cheer him up, but in vain. That is when Hiro finds Tadashi’s squishy robot creation Baymax (Scott Adsit). At length, Hiro’s micro-bots get stolen by someone. This is where the plot takes a turn, with Baymax and Hiro getting the group of Tadshi’s friends together and form a super hero team to get back their bots.

The Unforgettable San Fransokyo

Big Hero 6 is set in the fictitious city of San Fransokyo (A mix of San Francisco and Tokyo). As you might guess, the place is one of the coolest animated cities. Ever. In fact, the whole movie is mesmerizing in terms of the setting. You shall have to watch and re-watch the film a couple of times to see the meticulous details used. The actions scenes leave your eyes wide open- especially the scene where Hiro and Baymax learn flying. And, you can spot some Marvel Easter Eggs too!

Gripping Story + Unforgettable Characters

The beginning of the story is heartbreaking, but death of family members in Disney films is not something unusual, for in most Disney films, that’s where the true story starts. You have to bring some tissues along, for some scenes are really emotional. However, the sadness is what brings Hiro and Baymax together.

The adorable gap between Hiro’s front teeth is a great detail. He looks younger for a boy of fourteen.

Baymax is oh-so-adorable

As for Baymax, you are going to love him! He is a lovable soft robot, and loves helping people. Much different from the usual metal-and-iron robots you might imagine. The filmmakers spent a long time researching soft robots. Also, Baymax is funny- and I mean it. The scene where his battery starts to fail and he deflates is absolutely hysterical. The kitty scene- keep your eyes peeled for that. Baymax is sweet and absolutely lovable.

Big Hero 6 is all about the teamwork

The whole team is great. They are not like a ‘robotic’ team, you know. They are a group of robotic engineers who love their friends and can do anything for them. The superhero outfits and weapons that they invent want you explore Science more and more. In fact, one of the best things about the film is that it highlights Science in a great way. Science was never so exciting.

This is such an AHMAZING Review! I have watched the movie and OMIGOSH I have to say that it’s one of my favorite movies of all time hands down. I really like GOGO. Her superhero outfit is amazing and so is her power. But I absolutly love this adorable huggable robot named BAYMAX 😀 I would have to rate this movie 5 stars as well.

  3. The movie was so good, and what made it even better for me was I ran into three of my friends who were seeing it at the exact same time so we sat together and cried through the sad parts together. I tottaly agree with your rating

WOW. It seems like a pretty cool movie !
And apparently, Disney has made a new movie (probably old now) Star Wars Rebels. I love Star Wars. Which is weird ‘cos I love Disney Fairies too. Well the Star Wars part isn’t weird at all, the Disney Fairies is – considering I am a Tom Boy.
    Oh well.
I hope to post soon as well.
