How are you enjoying the Fairy Fashion Art Festival? I know I’m still awestruck by how many super talented fairy artists there are!!! 😀
Speaking of fairy fashion, have you seen previews for the new Disney Fairies movie The Legend of the Neverbeast? (If not, click here to watch it right now!) Did you notice something different about Fawn?!? 😮
Fawn looks COMPLETELY different!!! I’m not just talking about the obvious changes that could have been accomplished by a salon make over (make-up and hair style). Look at her eyes (color and shape), her mouth and lips, her ear size – even her eyebrows are different! The new Fawn looks more like Zarina’s pretty cousin rather than a glammed-up and made over Fawn…
Fawn has always been described as the “Tomboy, Animal-Talent Fairy”, so I guess her look from the beginning was created with that in mind. Although I have always liked Fawn because of her funny personality, I honestly never looked to her for fashion inspiration, because her outfits seemed so…well…basic and unflattering. And her hair style was kind of weird with that long tight braid and thick puffy bangs…
There was the exception outfit-wise with her glammed-up party dress make over (LOVED the dress and boots), but I still didn’t care for her hair style:
As I watched the preview for the new movie, I literally gasped out loud when I realized the new leading pretty fairy was Fawn! Other than some very slight similarities, it looks nothing like the old Fawn we knew:
Fawn’s hair style is softer and way more stylish, her outfit is SUPER cute (I would totally buy it! You know if PH were still open, her outfit would be available to buy right now), and she just seems more approachable in some way…She’s definitely lost that rugged vibe. I guess her old look just kind of made sense to me since she tended to animals all day. Instead of a delicate flower petal dress, you would need to wear clothes that can handle a lot of wear and tear, right?
What are your thoughts? Did Fawn change too much?
My biggest question is, what’s the back story on why she changed her look in the movie? Are they even going to address it? Like, did she go to Shelley’s Salon one day and just ask for a new look? I want details!!! 😉
I’m hoping that the lovely animal-talent-movie-reviewing-extraordinaire Sarah Diamondswirls will get to the bottom of this once the movie is released on March 3, 2015 😉

Fawn is super fashionable now!
While I do feel her current style is slightly inappropriate for her field (I mean, she tends animals all the time), I really like her new look. I would totally buy that dress 🙂
Who knows, maybe Rosetta went over to Schelly’s to force Fawn to get a make-over!

I think fawn looks so much more stylish now but what can i say i don’t really think its fawns style. i mean she is so different i think she almost looks too different. I think she looks great though i mean its not like she looks bad or anything 🙂

Well here’s the deal. I am a grandma fairy and I do not know how to change anything regarding my fairies or any other fairies. I do still like to read the blogs because I miss Pixie Hollow so much. I met so many other grandmother fairies when I was there and loved every minute of it. Sorry I cannot create any fashions. Even if I did I would not know how to put them on a fairy or use any fairy pictures. OH WELL, LOL.

she really does look like a girly-girl now, ESPECIALLY with the dress. Cute? Very. Fawn-ish? Not at all. Oh well, it was bound to happen eventually. Still, I liked the old Fawn much better.

I actually like Fawn’s makeover. I think we all change all the time. What we wear one year we would not be caught dead in the next. Same with hair styles, etc. I am sure all the fairies will change their looks. Except I heard this is the last Fairy movie, so maybe they will not be changing so fast, lol.

Thank you for this site! Can you believe that I have “Never Never” (LOL! Couldn’t resist!) seen ANY of the Disney “Fairies” movies? I have always loved Fawn’s coloration, though, because she always looked the most like a wild, natural “Lost Girl” type of fairy, if you will.
I have just seen the sneak peak of the “Neverbeast” movie, and the details are SO cool (Clarion’s DRESS, anyone?), and the characters are SO entertaining…that I’m glad that I want to make “The Legend of the Neverbeast” my first Disney Fairies movie!
I’m hoping to get both the movie…and the Fawn doll that goes with it, because I’m also crazy about Disney dolls…AND I’m crazy about all things that have ANYTHING to do with Disney’s “Peter Pan”!

I think the makeover was a little too drastic. My thoughts are, Disney wanted a more feminine doll to go along with the newest movie. I don’t think Fawn has been the most desirable fairy to all the princess loving girls out there. No little girl wants to put on a pair of brown leggings, a drab tunica, and polish it off with a tight, plain braid. More money will be made on dress up clothes, dolls, and Fawn paraphernalia if she were more glamorous.
I can’t be positive, it’s just my thoughts.
I completely disagree with you. My daughter liked Fawn the best out of all of them specifically because she wore pants and played in the dirt with the animals. I’m incredibly disappointed to see that Disney has changed her so much. They’re effectively telling the tomboys that they have to get girly if they’re going to be the center of attention. Just rotten.
Thanks for the break down & pictures. I watched the movie twice trying to pinpoint what was wrong. While I think her new look is nice, I don’t like the change. I think it’s Disney’s marketing team that made the changes. They can sell more when everyone thinks she looks great. I’m sad to see her originality go. All the young girls watching these movies have been given the message, “to be in the spot light, you need to fit into the mold.” So sad.
I got to see the new movie today and I am a big fan of Fawn’s new look. Love the hair, the outfit, the whole shebang. I kept hoping they’d address the makeover in the movie, but they don’t. There is however a deleted scene in which it is explained about her going to the salon, but it was cut in storyboard phase.

That’s really disappointing that they never mention Fawn’s new look 😦 I think the change is drastic enough that it should have been addressed – even if it was just a quick compliment or something. It’s like the movie writers thought we wouldn’t notice…
Hey guys am I the only one who can’t find the pixie hollow FAQ page?
So I just watched the new movie with my girls and I’m totally bummed about Fawn’s new look. As an animal fairy her previous outfit made more sense (although she probably could have done with a shorter braid. I’ve worked with several animals who nearly yanked off a piece of my scalp after grabbing some stray hair). I wish they would have left her the way she was.
Don’t get me wrong, as a zookeeper, I loved the new movie being based on the animal talent but she really should have kept her more sensible outfit (and, you know, her basic facial structure 😕) I don’t even know what Disney’s end game is? Clearly, if we are watching The Neverbeast we are probably pretty bought into the characters and don’t want to see them change. I just hate seeing a perfectly awesome character being dolled up for no purpose. It’s just unnecessary.
I stumbled on this site looking for why fawn’s voice changed. I think the changes are a lot less drastic than some of you are making them to be, partly because of two poorly chosen promo pictures at the top (no offense… I just mean if you picked two other pictures with the same smile/look… You wouldn’t see so much… For example the old fawn is sometimes drawn with the eye color of the new fawn… If you look at your last picture here, you can see the eye color of the new fawn Looks the same)
At any rate if you compare that picture to this fawn pic, you might see very little difference other than the braid and a different outfit
My little girl loved the neverbeast movie. I think Fawn is her favorite now… Playful, caring, brave, and funny, the most important thing is that Fawn’s personality didn’t change. I love the feathers incorporated into her dress, and the boots make more sense to me. (As far as wardrobe being functional, no one does gardening or works on a car or gets wet in the stuff Rosetta and Tink and Sil wear either…)
Let me start by saying that it’s awesome that your daughter loved The Legend of the Neverbeast and now considers Fawn one of her favorite fairies 🙂 Fawn is a terrific role model for all girls ❤
I can respect that your opinion differs from mine and other PH fans – especially since I'm assuming you haven't been a huge fan following the Disney Fairies' movies, books, and online game since 2008. However, I do take offense to your comment concerning the "two poorly chosen promo pictures" included in my post. These pictures of Fawn were taken directly from the official Disney Fairies' website as the official profile image of Fawn. If you have a problem with how they look, please contact Disney directly instead of accusing me of seeking out drastically different images on purpose.
Let me tell you, the pictures weren’t poorly chosen.
I have seen the movie thrice, and delved deep into it to decipher the reason behind Fawn’s make-over.
It’s merely done to grab more attention. Fawn looks more attractive to little girls in this look (apparently), and since she’s the protagonist in this film, the change was brought about.
Just wanted to leave a comment here to mention that Fawn actually does have a reason to be in the outfit she’s in. Unfortunately, the story behind it is addressed in a scene that was cut from the movie before release. The scene (in sketch form) is included in the bonus features of the Blu-Ray.

Yes I totally love the old fawn much better and was surprised to see such a big change, the movie was great I just wish they’d done it without the makeover!

I actually like the makeover version much better. I’m sure I’m alone in this but as a writer and an artist who does a lot of character design (just for fun), I feel like she should have looked like this from Day 1 — not the outfit, I have no opinion about the outfit. I feel like her original features didn’t fit her talent. Someone who can comfort animals and be trusted by them ought to have a kind and patient personality. It’s very possible in real life, of course, for a person to look grim and harsh and still be very sweet, but in animation appearances matters a little bit more because the artwork is used to tell the story. I think she looks more like an ‘earth mother’ now, like someone trustworthy. The original design does not bring this across for me — she doesn’t even especially look funny or mischievous, there’s a little bit of that in her eyes but the overall design just looks harsh and doesn’t advertise her special talent very well at all.
This is all just opinion, naturally, but personally if I’d been asked by Walt Disney Co. to design an animal-talent fairy for them, I’m pretty sure my first sketch would have been more similar to Fawn 2 than the original. I just feel that it fits much better.

I really like that she’s the main character in the Neverbeast movie too. The ending is so bittersweet & emotional. I can’t believe it might be the last Disney Fairies movie (at least for awhile). I’d love another movie with one of the other fairies as the leading character, too.
Did you like her original look better? I was surprised when they updated her look. I wasn’t expecting it. I wonder if they would do it to the other fairies in the future. That would be really weird, at least at first. And I think they definitely did something different to Fawn’s face lol. If you read the chapter books/graphic novels, you also see a big difference in the way the fairies use to look. I think I like them either way.
I thought is was a little drastic at first, but after watching The Pirate Fairy, it made much more sense. Not only was Fawn thrust into Iridessa’s talent, but into her wardrobe as well. After being stuck in something else for a few days, we start liking it. Same thing with Fawn. She liked Dess’s taste, but wanted to personalize it a bit more. And since Fawn is very adventurous, she probably thought, “Well, I’m changing my outfit, why not my hair too? Could be Fun!” And as a result, we now have the newly-styled Fawn.
Maybe it had something to do with a promotion of sorts.
If you think about it, Nyx, the leader of the scout fairies, seemed to focus a lot more on fawn than other Animal-Talents. Queen Clarion was focusing on her the same way as Nyx, looking to her to help Nyx with the strange creature. Also, the feathers of Fawn’s skirt look somewhat similar to the feathers, quills, and patterns of the Scout-Talents uniform. So, maybe Fawn is more connected to animals then other Animal-Talent fairies. She was able to get them going and happy much faster than the others, as we could see in the movie.
At any rate, my theory is that because of her better understanding and control on animals, she was given some kind of promotion, so that she could help the Scout-fairies without a bunch of authority trouble.
